Creating a Digital Key

Can I see a picture of my key?

KeyHero™ values the security of your digital keys as if they were our own. Due to this, there is not an option to see a picture or outline of your key that could potentially be duplicated by unwanted parties.

How do I retrieve my key that was sent from the KeyKrafter™?

If you are new to KeyHero™, your digital key will be waiting for you after downloading the KeyHero™ app, setting up an account, and logging in. If you are a current KeyHero™ user, log in to your account and it will be waiting for you in your Key List. Note: If you were already logged in to your KeyHero™ account when the key was received, you will need to pull down on the screen to refresh your Key List.

I accidentally deleted a key, can I still retrieve it?

If you accidentally delete a key you will need to visit a KeyKrafter™ key machine and rescan your key.

Can I store automotive keys (including Transponder or Advanced Keys) on the KeyHero™?

KeyHero™ is able to store non-transponder/non-advanced automotive keys (ie, basic brass keys). The advanced electronics inside your key cannot be backed up to KeyHero™ at this time.

How do I delete a key?

You can delete a key two ways. First, by swiping left on the key name from your Key List and clicking “Delete Key”. Second, by clicking on the key you want to delete and clicking the trashcan symbol in the top right corner of the key details screen. Either way, you will be asked if you are sure you want to delete the key and will need to press “Delete Key” to verify.

Can I save a key without cutting it?

Yes. Once you reach the "Congratulations" screen confirming you have saved a digital copy of your key, you can hit "Cancel" at any time to leave your session at the KeyKrafter™.

I tried to save a key and it failed to send.

The KeyKrafter™ machine uses a cellular connection to send your digital key file. If it fails to send, it is likely due to signal loss in the area. We apologize for the inconvenience and recommend trying again later.

How do I name my key while creating a digital copy at the KeyKrafter™ key cutting machine?

The KeyKrafter™ machine will give you a list of naming options when creating your digital key. The last option is "Custom" and will bring up a keyboard for you to personalize your key name. Also, you can rename your key through the KeyHero™ app at any time.

Managing Your KeyHero™ Account

I forgot my username or password.

Your log-in is the email address you used to create your account. If you have forgotten your password, click on the "Forgot password" link and enter the email you used to create your KeyHero™ account. You will be emailed a link and instructions to reset your password. Note: Passwords must be at least 8 characters long and contain both uppercase and lowercase letters, a number, and a special character (!@#$%^&*).

I'm having trouble setting up a new account.

Verify you have entered a First Name, Last Name, full email address (EX: abc@abc.com), and created a password that is at least 8 characters long and contains both uppercase and lowercase letters, a number, and a special character (!@#$%^&*). If you are still having trouble, please fill out the form on the “Contact Us” section of this website.

What are the password requirements?

Passwords must be at least 8 characters long and contain both upper and lower case letters, a number, and a special character (!@#$%^&*).

When do I create my account?

You can download the KeyHero™ app and create your account at any time. Please note: If you create a digital key before downloading the KeyHero™ app and creating your account, you will not have access to your digital key until you have done so and verified your email address.

Do I need to verify my account?

Yes, after creating your KeyHero™ account you will receive a verification email that is the final step in completing your account setup. This final step must be completed prior to viewing or interacting with your digital keys, in order to ensure the security of your account and digital keys.

What information is required to create a KeyHero™ account?

First name, last name, valid email address, and create a password. Note: Passwords must be at least 8 characters long and contain both upper and lower case letters, a number, and a special character (!@#$%^&*).

What if I don't receive my verification email?

Make sure to check your spam/junk folder in addition to your inbox. If it is not in any of those folders, then:

  1. Open the KeyHero™ app and select "Forgot Password"
  2. After the website opens, enter the email address used to create your account
  3. Your email address will be recognized as unverified and a new option to "Resend verification email" will appear. Click the button to resend the email.
  4. Go to your email, open the verification email, and click "Verify" to finalize your account setup.

Cutting a Digital Key

My key won't send to the KeyKrafter™.

In order to send a digital key from KeyHero™ to the KeyKrafter™, you will need to use both and pair them via a PIN #. Follow the on-screen prompts on the KeyKrafter™ to retrieve the PIN #, and then input it on your KeyHero™ app when prompted.

If I back up my keys at one location, can I cut them at a different merchant store?

Yes, you can cut any key you have backed up in KeyHero™ at any merchant with a compatible KeyKrafter™ (look for the KeyHero™ emblem on the front of the machine). However, keep in mind that different merchants carry different key types. The same key types you cut previously may not be available at the one you are planning to go to.

What do I do if the key I got cut doesn’t work?

Return it to the store you purchased it from for a full refund. We apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused.

Can I get my key without my phone?

You can download KeyHero™ to any Apple or Android mobile device, but you do need to have the KeyHero™ app with you in-store to send your digital key to the KeyKrafter™ machine.

What happens if there is limited or no cellular connection to the KeyKrafter™?

The sending/receiving of digital key files to and from the KeyKrafter™ depends on a cellular signal. If there is limited or no cellular connection at the time of your visit, the area is most likely experiencing a temporary signal loss. We apologize for the inconvenience and request that you try again later.

Where can I get my digital key cut?

You can have your digital keys cut at any hardware or home improvement center that has a KeyKrafter™ key cutting machine that is KeyHero™ ready (look for the KeyHero™ emblem on the front of the machine).

Sharing a Digital Key

How do I stop sharing my key?

If you want to stop sharing your key on an individual basis, you can revoke access to a specific person by clicking on the key details and then the red "X" next to their name. You can also delete the key entirely, which will delete it from everyone you have shared it with. Note: Only delete your key if you no longer need it. Otherwise you will have to visit a KeyKrafter™ machine to rescan it.

How will I know if the person I shared my key with made a copy?

KeyHero™ will send you a notification (based on your notification preferences) that will alert you to who, where, and when cut a copy of your shared key.

I can't receive a key that I was sent from a friend or family member.

If you are new to KeyHero™, you will need to download the app, create an account, and log in before seeing your key. If you already have KeyHero™, verify the email address used to send the key to you matches the email address you used to create your account. If you received an email notification that you have been sent a key, you will need to click the link and "redeem" the key in order for it to appear in your Key List. If you are already logged in to KeyHero™ when receiving your key, you will need to pull down on the screen to refresh your Key List.

My key won't share to another user.

Verify the email address you are trying to send to is correct and still valid. If the person you are trying to send your digital key to is already a KeyHero™ user, verify you are using the email address they used to create their account.

What happens to my shared key if I delete the key?

If you delete a digital key in your Key List then it will also be deleted from the Key List of anyone you have shared it with.

Can I set my shared key to expire?

A shared key will stay with whomever it was shared with until it is either revoked or deleted. You can revoke a shared key at any time by clicking on that key's details, and clicking the red "X" next to the user’s name.

General Questions

Can I cut Do Not Copy keys?

No. It is not recommended to attempt to duplicate Do Not Copy keys

How can I rename a key in my Key List?

Click on the key you want to rename to bring up its details. Click on the pencil next to the key name, rename the key as desired, and press the checkmark when complete.

How do I get KeyHero™?

You can download KeyHero™ for either Apple or Android devices from the Apple App Store or Android Market by searching for KeyHero™.

What happens if I get a new phone or accidentally delete the KeyHero™ app?

Download the KeyHero™ app again and log in. Your keys will still be in your Key List.

Does KeyHero™ use my cellular data?

Yes, KeyHero™ will use a very small amount of data to send/receive digital key files. You can connect to an available WiFi network to avoid data usage.

What phone operating system does KeyHero™ run on?

KeyHero™ will run on iOS 9.1 and higher, as well as Android 4.4 and higher.

Can I access my keys from the web?

You can only access your keys from the KeyHero™ app.

Where is the information stored?

Your digital keys are backed up to the UniKey™ servers using military-grade encryption to keep your key secure.

Do you sell my information?

No, and we purposely collect very little personal information for your added security.

Have you ever been hacked?

No. UniKey™ is proud of their security model and have stood up to multiple security audits and reviews.

Will I ever be charged for anything?

There is no charge for the KeyHero™ app, creating a digital copy of a key, or sending a digital copy of a key. You will need to purchase the physical keys you are cutting from the retailer at which you have your digital keys cut.

Can I view my keys or account from the KeyKrafter™?

You can only view your keys and account information through your KeyHero™ app. This is to better protect your private information and keep it secure on your mobile device, behind your username and password.
